A: Not quite. Hand-scraping involves long, smooth strokes that create a wavy texture. Distressing often includes adding "chatter marks," wire-brushing, or artificial wormholes. Our Teak is primarily hand-scraped for a refined, elegant texture rather than a "beat-up" look.
Q: Can hand-scraped flooring be refinished?
A: Yes, especially our Solid and Thick-Wear Layer Engineered options. However, keep in mind that a full drum-sanding will remove the hand-scraped texture and make the floor smooth. If you wish to keep the texture, a "screen and recoat" is recommended instead of a deep sand.
Q: Does the texture make the floor harder to clean?
A: No. Our scrapings are "soft-contoured," meaning there are no deep crevices for dirt to hide. A standard microfiber mop and pH-neutral cleaner are all that's required.
Q: Does hand-scraped Teak change color like smooth Teak?
A: Yes. It will still undergo a photochemical reaction and mellow into a rich golden-brown. Because the texture creates shadows, the color maturation often looks even deeper and more complex than on a flat surface.
Q: Is it suitable for use with radiant heat?
