Maintenance

In everyone's impression, solid wood flooring is the most delicate, but teak flooring, though "expensive," is not "delicate." The delicacy of solid wood flooring comes from the need for regular waxing and careful maintenance. Teak, however, contains abundant oil and iron, so it doesn't require waxing. Simply wipe it with a semi-dry cotton mop and perform daily cleaning. Even with the best maintenance, ordinary solid wood flooring will eventually look old, and depreciation is inevitable. Teak, on the other hand, is magical; it becomes more beautiful with use, looking brand new even after many years, sometimes even more beautiful than when it was first laid.

Flooring Installation and Maintenance Points

(1) Flooring should be laid in the later stages of construction, and should not be installed concurrently. After installation, it should be sanded and coated as soon as possible to prevent soiling or moisture-induced deformation.

(2) Before installation, flooring should be unpacked and stored at the installation site for 1-2 days to allow it to acclimatize and prevent expansion and contraction after installation.

(3) Moisture-proofing measures should be taken during installation, especially in damp areas such as the subfloor. Moisture-proofing measures include applying moisture-proof paint, laying moisture-proof film, and using underlayment.

(4) The joists should be flat and firm. Avoid using cement for reinforcement; expansion bolts and fasteners are best.

(5) Joists should be made of larch, lauan, or other woods with strong nail-holding power. The moisture content of the joists or subfloor should be close to that of the flooring. The spacing between joists should not be too large, generally not exceeding 30 cm. Both ends of the flooring should rest on the joists, not be left unsupported, and each joist must be nailed. Water-based adhesives should not be used.

(6) The flooring should not be laid too tightly. Sufficient expansion joints (0.5–1.0 cm) should be left around the perimeter against the walls. Excessive width is not recommended; in wider areas, the flooring should be divided and cut, then a copper strip should be used for transition.

(7) Thorough moisture-proofing measures should be implemented at the junction of the flooring and stone floors in living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.

(8) Color differences in flooring are unavoidable. If high color accuracy is required, pre-sorting and a gradual transition method can be adopted to reduce visual abruptness.

(9) Avoid washing with water during use, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and direct airflow from air conditioners, protect from rain near windows, and avoid impacts and friction from hard objects. To protect the floor, waxing can be applied to the lacquer surface (from a floor protection perspective, waxing is more effective than lacquering).
