Origin
The best teak flooring on the market is Burmese teak flooring. Teak originates from Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Myanmar. Thailand banned the export of teak logs in the 1980s, making Myanmar the best source for the market. Authentic Burmese teak flooring is primarily made from natural, virgin teak forests, boasting superior material quality!
Other Markets
Although teak is also found outside of Myanmar and Thailand, the different soil and climate conditions in the growing regions significantly diminish its quality and texture. Characteristics of authentic teak, such as oiliness, dark streaks, and the aroma, are greatly reduced or almost nonexistent. It loses the rich, warm texture of genuine teak, and the material is relatively dry. Therefore, materials labeled "African teak," "South American teak," "Indonesian teak," or "Brazilian teak" are not actually genuine teak.
Those marketed as Thai teak are unaware that because Thailand has long banned teak logging and restricted exports, natural, virgin Thai teak is virtually nonexistent in the market. Some teak has been imported from Thailand, but it's mostly the kind from Thai plantations with a relatively short growth cycle, maturing in about 10 years. The possibility of it being from virgin forests is extremely low. Teak is already being cultivated in some regions of China with climates similar to Southeast Asia.
There are fabricated names such as Golden Teak, Golden Teak, King Teak, Imperial Teak, Purple Gold Teak, Teak Sandalwood, Iron Teak, and Beautiful Teak. In fact, these tree species don't exist in the world; they are merely miscellaneous woods. Some manufacturers use these names to associate flooring with teak simply to inflate their own value!
